The expert stressed that Britain sees an opportunity “to secure defense contracts with the Ukrainian government”

LONDON, August 12. /TASS/. For Britain, geostrategic objectives outweigh human rights in Ukraine, British political analyst and publisher of Politics First magazine Marcus Papadopoulos told TASS on Wednesday.

“The conflict in Ukraine has claimed many civilian lives and has the potential to claim many, many more. However, Britain, while it claims to be a guardian of human rights, acts very differently in reality, as its close strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia demonstrates, for example,” Papadopoulos said. “In the case of Ukraine, the British government knows that by militarily supporting the Ukrainian army and paramilitary forces this will lead to the deaths of civilians in the Donbass. But that understanding is superseded by Britain’s overriding objective to secure Ukraine’s place in the West’s orbit for once and for all. For Britain, like with America, geostrategic objectives far outweigh human rights.”

The expert stressed that Britain sees an opportunity “to secure defense contracts with the Ukrainian government.” “Kiev is committing a lot of money to its military sector and Britain very much wants to gain monetarily from this. Alas, has history shows, once a country is brought into the West’s sphere of influence, the country in question starts handing out defense contracts to its new Western partners,” he noted.

The fact that Britain has been providing a steady flow of military assistance to Ukraine is ” a precursor for eventual full-blown military support to the Ukrainian government,” Papadopoulos stressed. “It is a gradual process, as was the case with the Americans in Vietnam.”

“Britain has a historic mistrust and disliking of Russia and has historically considered Russia as a threat to the freedom, stability and peace of Europe. And, since the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe, and the subsequent disillusion of the USSR, Britain has been a staunch supporter of NATO expansion eastwards, all the way to the western borders of the Russian Federation,” the expert concluded.
